Galleries

Patonga Bakehouse Gallery

As you know the Bakehouse Gallery is open Sundays 11am-3pm (and at other times by appointment) Over 10 years the Patonga Bakehouse Gallery has proved increasingly popular. They now have an average of about 50 keen art addicts each week. The mosy common enquiry is why the works aren't offered for sale. Jocelyn and Robin regard their gallery as an extension of their studio, they show to share their skills and their view of the world, not to market their products. Its a gallery not a shop! They are often asked if they hold classes, they don't, but they do offer (on appointment) a free critique for those wishing assistance. No one is too young or too old. They have an almost evangelical belief in classical draughtsmanship and pictorial composition, and they see their gallery as a showcase of their philosophy. The 'across the road 24/7 shopfront gallerygives them the opportunity to encourage other artists in a very practical way, by offering them 'a show'.

GOSFORD REGIONAL GALLERY

July 17 to September 5, This exhibition is a selection of works from the Sidney Nolan Gallipoli Series from the Australian War Memorial Travelling Exhibition .
Sidney Nolan (1917-1992) was one of Australia's most complex, innovative and prolific artists. In 1978, he presented the Gallipoli series to the Australian War Memorial. 252 drawings and paintings completed over a 20 year period, were donated in memory of his brother Raymond, a soldier who died in a tragic accident just before the end of WW 11. The exhibition presents a personal and public lament, commemorating not just the death of Nolan's brother, but a campaign that had cost so many Australian lives.
July 17 to September 12 'Digging Marulan'
In 2007, Sydney based artist Geraldine Berkemeier was invited by archaelogist Denis Gojak to accompany him on a dig at the site of Old Marulan, north of Goulburn. The historic site was being investigated due to planned roadwork and the resulting exhibition details Berkemeier's response to the remains of the Old Marulan Township abandoned in the 1860's. It includes works on paper and installations based on her investigations.
